Welcome to Possum Bottom Farm
Rita and Matthew Songer are creating a new farm that in time will provide heirloom vegetables, fruit, flowers, and herbs coupled with various farming, science, and nature discovery activities. We are building the farm on the former site of Rainbow Ranch Trout Farm.
What happened to Rainbow Ranch? Our family was forced to close the trout farm after 42 years of business due to the forced sale of 3 acres of land for a new bridge over the Chattahoochee River. The land that the state of Georgia acquired included our water intake system. No water, no trout. Permits for a new water intake system would have involved multiple Federal, State, and local agencies and could have taken years to acquire even if the plans were approved. So we retired Rita’s brother Robert Hice to have weekends off for the first time in 20 years and we are slowly transforming the family land to fulfill our vision of Possum Bottom Farm.
Late Winter/Spring 2014 will see the start of an on farm market for naturally grown heirloom vegetables.
Vegetables grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
No GMO plants.
Deep well water irrigation.
Good healthy food grown like it used to be grown.
